Incheon International Airport
Incheon International Airport, which is sometimes referred to as Seoul-Incheon International Airport, is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. The airport first opened in 2001 after over eight years of construction. Incheon International Airport was built in order to reduce the strain on Gimpo International, as it became apparent after the 1988 Seoul Olympics, that there was not enough capacity to deal with increased amounts of air traffic.
Incheon International Airport has been rated the best international transit airport by Skytrax. The airport at present has one terminal, which is said to be the cleanest airport terminal in the world. The terminal has a plethora of amenities including a number of chain restaurants, bakeries, designer stores and bars. In addition to the usual amenities you’d expect to find at an airport, passengers have the option to enjoy a spa, indoor gardens, museum of Korean culture, ice skating rink and a casino. The airport also has its own golf course.
There are three runways at Incheon International Airport. The longest measuring at total of 4,000 meters while the other two both measure 3,750 meters. The airport is capable of handling all aircraft types including the Airbus A380. There are plans to increase the capacity at Incheon International Airport, with a brand new terminal expected to open in January 2018.
