Private jet charter and flights to Frankfurt
Offering an infectious blend of quaint old buildings and ultra-modern architecture, Germany’s bustling financial centre is a cosmopolitan hub bursting with things to see and do. Arrange your private jet charter to Frankfurt with Air Charter Service.
Its many pedestrianised streets make Frankfurt easy to explore on foot, but there’s also a good tram system if you’re short on time. Start at Goethe House, the birthplace of famous German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, before strolling along Museumsufer, a row of well-curated museums lining either side of the Main River. Frankfurt has played a pivotal role in Germany’s history and while much of its original architecture was destroyed in World War II, the Old Town is still home to some charming churches, museums and squares. Don’t miss the 15th-century Frankfurt Cathedral, an atmospheric Gothic building where Roman-German emperors were crowned.
Frankfurt is one of Germany's largest urban woodland areas. Goethe Tower in City Forest, a stunning natural expanse covering nearly 80km2, offers breathtaking views of the green belt; while the Palmengarten Botanical Gardens showcase 50 acres of exotic plant-life. Heading back into the metropolis, take in the city’s dramatic high-rise skyline (which inspired its “Main-hattan†moniker) from the glass-fronted Main Tower’s observatory. Art enthusiasts can peruse pieces by Warhol, Beuys and Lichtenstein at the trendy MMK Museum of Modern Art before checking out the Caricatura Museum’s sardonic cartoons.
Those in need of retail therapy won’t be disappointed. Go window shopping in the department stores of the Zeil, Frankfurt’s answer to Fifth Avenue, and browse the Goethestrasse’s exclusive designer boutiques, jewellers and antique shops. Rummage for bargains in the curiosity shops along Oeder Weg and Berger Strasse and hunt for vintage treasures at weekend flea markets. Don’t leave without picking up a souvenir pottery pitcher of Apfelwein, Frankfurt's distinctive cider.
From schnitzel to sushi, Frankfurt’s exciting culinary scene reflects the city’s cultural diversity. Foodie hub Fressgasse is lined with snack stalls and small restaurants, while Old Sachsenhausen’s cosy apple-wine taverns serve hearty local specialities at communal wooden tables. World-class options include French fine dining at Erno’s Bistro, one of the city’s 13 Michelin-starred restaurants. After dinner, head to nightlife hub Sachsenhausen’s array of cocktail bars and pubs.
Accommodation here ranges from the swanky to the simple. Fans of old-world grandeur should opt for the 130-year-old Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, whose illustrious list of former guests includes Queen Victoria and Elton John. Design-conscious jetsetters will love The Pure, a minimalist renovated loft, while the luxurious Rocco Forte Villa Kennedy is housed in a historic villa with pampering spa. There’s also a range of cosy guesthouse and bed-and-breakfast options for a more authentic stay.
