Mauritius

Private jet charter to Mauritius

Mauritius is a relatively large island when it comes to idyllic, Robinson Crusoesque retreats. Around its edge you’ll find mile upon mile of sandy beach, ranging from powder soft to scattered with shells and coral, some are busy, others are seemingly unknown. Within its confine you’ll find scattered towns and villages, vast sugarcane plantations and plenty of dense forest puncuated by waterfalls and hiking trails. Whether you’re looking to spend time browsing local markets, relaxing in a sprawling resort, or holing up in an intimate retreat, charter a private jet to Mauritius.

The capital, Port Louis, is Africa’s richest city and you can find everything from bustling markets to high-end boutiques here. The area around the port is especially upmarket, but there are a lot of western influences when it comes to dining outlets and shops. Head into town and away from the ocean and you’ll find a more authentic take on Mauritian life, but barter hard in the markets as they’re used to catering to tourists. Nearby you can also find plenty of restaurants serving an array of cuisines, from Chinese and African, to French and Indian. The city is also home to the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, previously known as Pamplemousses. Here you can see plenty of indigenous flora, as well as a vast pond covered in giant water lillies.

Resorts are scattered around the edges of Mauritius, making the most of the beautiful coastline. When it comes to where to stay, the west coast is generally the spot for the best beaches, with the east being cooler and breezier. There is a great market in Mahebourg on the south east coast and it’s also down this way that you find the little island of Il Aux Aigrettes, a nature reserve home to giant tortoises. Here you’ll also find out about the other species that call Mauritius home and some which unfortunately have become extinct over the years.

Back on the main island you can visit the Black River Gorges National Park and enjoy a network of hiking trails, see the seven coloured sands just outside Chamarel, or head to a tea plantation or rum distillery. For a little more history you can visit one of the many museums, manor houses or forts and towers.

The main airport in Mauritius is the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, located 26kms from Port Louise, the capital. Take a look at our airport finder and book a private jet to Mauritius with Air Charter Service.
